End of the Year Message from Krissy Keefer
December, 2017

Greetings dancers, art lovers, parents, travelers, and students of the sublime:

Dance MissionAnother year is coming to a close and the future is unfolding in all of its glory. We have pumped it out, mulled it over, laughed out loud, and dared to hold the line against an increasing dark and misanthropic administration. We have watched our friends in far off and near-by places (St. Maarten, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Iran, Syria, Sonoma, and Yemen) deal with mounting and unrelenting collapse of infrastructure. We stand in solidarity with our neighbors and fight for the future.

Dance Mission

Our programs are operating at full steam and continue to expand. This year our theater had 38 weeks of programing, we commissioned 20 artists for the D.I.R.T. Festival, and we celebrated our 40th Anniversary at YBCA with a phenomenal show. We just wrapped up the Fall Season with an uber fun and successful fundraiser led by the adult program, had a sold-out run of ¬°Adelante!, our innovative commissioning project for the Dance Mission Company, and are finishing out the year with four fantastic shows of The Revolutionary Nutcracker Sweetie - The Kidz Version.

Dance Mission

And now the big question - how far have we come in our efforts to secure a permanent home? We have a building!!! In partnership with MEDA (Mission Economic Development Agency) and Mission Neighborhood Centers Inc, we are developing a new space at Mission and 18th Streets. We are staying in the Mission! This groundbreaking project will include a floor dedicated to Mission Neighborhood Centers, a floor dedicated to Dance Mission studios, theater, and offices, and 44 units of low-income housing. We hope to break ground December 2019. So vamos a andar! Let's get going!

Involved in, committed to, and working tirelessly on this project are MEDA, NCCLF (Northern California Community Loan Fund), Common Ground, Mission Neighborhood Centers, and Dance Mission board members and staff. We have a wonderful architect who has created an amazing design to house all these groups under one roof. We are lucky to be part of this project.

Mission The new building is terribly exciting and we are tasked to raise $8 million dollars. This is a lot of of money by anyone's standards, but we can do it with your help! So please keep us in mind during this season of giving and do not hesitate to connect us with others that might want to partner with us on this thrilling and important venture.

In solidarity,
Krissy Keefer
Artistic Director
